Sure, but most type designers use Mac OS X and would use Font Validator more often (especially to initially try it out) if it is released as a simple binary for both platforms.3 -

It's not useful to have the tool fail things that are now common practice, and wait for a very slow moving spec to update. It's better to reduce the outcome to a warning/informative note th…3
